No Spitting in Davao

Davao’s City Council has passed an ordinance prohibiting spitting in public places.

According to the city law’s proponent, Councilor Samuel Bangoy when interviewed by Inquirer.net, The city council passed the ordinance not only to stem the “nasty habit but to protect the health of the people as well” .

Thos who will be caught would be fined P100 for the first offense, P200 for the second offense and P300 for third offense. Not only that, the court may grant a subsidiary imprisonment of not more than six months.

This is also simillar to an Ordinance in my home town – Marikina City:

SECTION 33. Spitting and nose blowing within the premises of government building, including those in the sidewalks, alleys, public places, and inside public utility vehicles is strictly prohibited. (Ord. No. 44, Series of 1997)

Will post a copy of the ordinance as soon as I get a copy.
