GenSan was a BLAST

October 30, 2008

GenSan was at the spotlight in recent months because of bombings that killed and injured some people in GenSan. This time, its a different BLAST!

It was my first time in General Santos City, the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. We were welcomed by friendly generals… not from the military, but ordinary people of Gensan. Yes, people from Gensan are called Generals. If it was not for the 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit, i wouldn’t be there.

I was initially supposed to sleep at First Country Hotel however, due to its surprising features, i decided to go to East Asia Royal Hotel instead.

The day after the event, I had the chance to get a tour of Gensan with some bloggers who wanted to see what the city holds for tourists and guests.

  • General Santos City Fish Port. The cleanest fish port that i have seen.
  • Saranggani Highlands
  • Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao Mansion
  • Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church

Some friends told me not to go to the malls for it is the favorite place where terrorists sends out their regards. I didn’t mind. We – avel, blogie, chatte, mark, richiard, patrick, and other bloggers from gensan – went to KCC mall after the tour to have lunch. It was full of people. Prior to that, i went to Gaisano Mall of Gensan which was not far from where the event was happening.

We were also treated to what seems to be a sample of what the GenSan’s version of the Davao Food Trip will be like. The night we arrived in Gensan, we had dinner at Grab a Crab restaurant… nice place, good food, great service. Just in front of the resto was Coffee Club 101. as brader pierre said

Starbucks denizens? Your coffee place has nothing on Coffee Club 101, having better quality drinks at half the price, nor on its baristas, who are far friendlier than quite a number of chaos central Starbucks counter people.

Me and some bloggers also got invited to have dinner at Saranggani Highlands… Good food with the perfect ambiance! And before I left Gensan, I was able to try Sud-an restuarant where i found the best shrimp with alige meal.

This is just a summary of my Gensan trip. Details will be posted on my Photo and Travel blog : What I See Is What I blog [] and to not confuse my readers why there are a bunch of gensan post on my Davao Blog! hahahha

So you see…. GenSan was really a blast huh? Thanks to my good friend Bariles Republic -brader Avel for baby sitting all bloggers and to the Gensan bloggers for their hospitality.

I will go back to Gensan.. hey.. it’s just 3 hours away from Davao!
