A Mindanao Bloggers Summit 2 remember

October 29, 2008

This is the third of three parts of my MBS2 experience.

The day wasn’t over yet even if we already said thank you to everyone for attending the 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit. The second half was about to begin!

The organizers had prepared something to remind all the participants that they are in the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. They called this activity the “Sashimi Night”! A large tuna was already on the table waiting to be sliced and diced (if that’s the correct term).

When the slicer (i don’t want to call him the butcher) arrived, he immediately put on his “slicing clothes”  and sprayed ethanol on the tuna (yeah, ethanol = alcohol on the tuna.. for sanitation purposes) The rest of the tune slicing can be seen on the video [to be uploaded].

Outside, an array of nicely prepared food for the evening’s cocktail was already prepared. I went inside to take a look at the sashimi making again and when I went out again, it was like there was nothing prepared on the table. Everything was gone. That just goes to show how good the food was. The most interesting dish there for me was the ostrich mini-burger. Was lucky enough to grab a hold of some and taste it. It was yummy!

While all this was happening inside, the Mayor of General Santos City, the Honorable Pedro B. Acharon Jr. graced the occasion. They said he was already 40+ years old, but you be the judge. He looked like 30+ to me. => I wanted to tell him how great his speech which was read earlier that day. However, he was a bit busy answering the questions of the Jester in Exile who had prepared some questions for him. The interview can be found here. After the interview, the good mayor had to leave to attend another event.

Then someone shouted “Let’s go inside and have dinner”. I think it was Avel. I was thinking.. does Avel wants us to be as “fully figured” as him? Hahahha… (hi brader!).

Everyone went inside and the Band started playing. The band members were government employees. I assume that all of them were Avel’s officemates from City Hall.

Aside from the good music, this was also prepared for us inside…

A buffet dinner… most of us can hardly eat anumore… but because the food was great, everyone lined up and had a hearty dinner.

During the morning program, the organizers already told us that during dinner, we will be witnessing an award winning presentation.

A theater group called Teatro Ambahanon of the Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College, was scheduled to give us a “not the usual” theatrical performance.

A polluted mind would clearly see this i was both. At first i thought “There are kids here”. But if you dig deeper and by the power of blogs that would help explain the context or the story behind it, you will realize that what they did was superb. Speaking of which, the group already won an award during an event held at the CCP. Not only that, they will also be performing two of the 7 acts that they performed that night in Fukuoka Japan during a similar event there.

I called it a night after the group’s performance. I was sooooo tired from the morning’s activity. Good thing i was able to sit down most of the time unlike what happened during WordCamp Philippines where my foot got so stressed out.

What happened after I left was something i would have wanted to be part of…. I should have drank extra joss! Oh well, i should just be satisfied looking at pictures of bloggers dancing, laughing, and enjoying the evening with the company of each other…

Indeed, this was an MBS 2 remember.

Now the question is, how will the host of the 3rd MBS top GenSan! Both the learning and the fun part… but i hope they do more with the learning part. You see bloggers here in Mindanao always have fun whenever they meet each other. With or without a formal event. Mindanao Bloggers are eager to mingle with their fellow Mindanawons.

I’d like to end my post about MBS 2 with three main words (in bold text) which even manilenyos, aside from me, who attended this event could attest to…

  • There is PEACE in Mindanao;
  • Mindanao Bloggers are UNITED for a common goal;
  • Blogging the Mindanawon way is FUN!

See you on the 3rd Mindanao Blogging Summit!

Read part 1 and part 2.

    you asked: how will MBS3 top MBS2?

    my opinion: if the summit takes this group of very engaged and organized bloggers and to connect with bloggers of the rest of the country and the world.

    your community has coalesced — it’s now time to take it a step up. congratulations to you and your colleagues’ success! padayon!

    The theatrical performance is one of the most controversial and shocking phenomena during the Summit… LOL

    Thanks for sharing this, it made me laugh all over again.
