Nurse dies in UK due to medical malpractice

January 10, 2008

The pic of the lady you see above is Maya Cabrera. She died after giving birth to her son… due to medical malpractice.

But the hospital lied to her husband and said that the cause of death was due to a rare complication. He only knew the truth after the result of a police investigation.

What’s worse, her estranged husband is now being deported back to the Philippines because they were only allowed to stay if Maya was still working as a nurse.

The couple came to Britain in 2002 and Mrs Cabrera, 30, was employed as a theatre nurse at Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

She gave birth to their son, Zac, at the hospital in May 2004. Her husband had time to take a photo of their newborn son before his wife went into cardiac arrest.

Staff were unable to revive her and a crash team doctor said Mrs Cabrera died from an amniotic fluid embolism, a rare complication which happens in only one in 100,000 births.

Her husband only learned the truth when his lawyer told him the outcome of a police investigation.

‘The person who gave Mayra the wrong drug has robbed me of my wife,’ said Mr Cabrera, 38. ‘No one should make this kind of error and not be made to answer for it.’

Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust has admitted liability for the mistake but no one has been prosecuted.

The hospital admitted Killing the patient or lying to the husband OR BOTH?

Whith regards to the deportation issue, i hope they’d be allowed to stay in UK and for the husband to find another job there. Anyway, Its not their fault that they lost Maya.

What is our Government doing about it?

Hmmm.. I’m seeing another “Blog Barrage” here.
