Davao Dining: Papa Ching’s

December 25, 2007

I had the chance to check out Papa Chings Restaurant last December 23.

It was Brader Blogie who introduced me to this resto. I wanted to eat pasta, chicken, and sea foods that night. But blogs told me about papa chings.. and he said that there was Chopsuey… so i said OK… I’d have anything aside from pork and beef.. because that week was LAMON week… brought about by everyday partying!

I was kinda surprised about the place. It was like an air conditioned karinderya. :p

Papa chings is supposed to be known for “the best greaseless chicken.. Hmmm.. let see..

We ordered the following:

Greaseless chicken – spciy (Half order)

It was supposed to be spicy but its not. Its greeseless alright.. The presentation was nice. Its good for two persons.

The verdict… it was OK. The crispy chicken skin plus the soft and not dry inside.

But i find the greeseless chicken at Q Resto better!

Chopsuey

Its chopsuey.. thats it. nothing special about it.. hahahha

Good for 4 persons.

Krispy Kangkong

Now this one is also surprising. I’ve tried krispy kangkong from other resto, and usually they are either not that crispy or greasy! This one is not.. Its really crispy and non greasy! NICE!

Its supposed to be good for 4-6 persons.. But that night its only good for two! hahahha

Sinigang Na Hipon

Sinigang na Hipon was sinigang na hipon.. hahhaha

Good for 2-4 persons.

It may not be the best greaseless chicken in town but it deserves to be on the list of one of the best!

And I hope Papa Ching’s resto would have a distinct taste.

I’ll go back to Papa Ching’s!

Its at the back of Victoria Plaza Mall along the street between Mcdonald’s and Victoria Plaza Mall.

Open from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 9:30pm

I’ve traveled alot and eaten at places that are regionally, nationally, and even globally known for great fried chicken. Papa Ching’s greaseless chicken rates up there with the best in the world. What makes that even more remarkable is that it’s essentially a family-owed and run operation. Your order is taken by the friendliest and knowledgeable staff and your food is presented to you in just a few minutes. The chicken tastes fresh, juicy, and totally ungreasy (for real fried chicken.) And despite what other reviewers wrote, I have never had other than friendly, smiling service and the chicken portions are very generously sized and cooked to perfection. Davao (and the Philippines) should be proud to be the home of such a class operation. One hit, and you’re addicted. The chicken really is THAT good. You know the food is good when a large and loud group falls nearly silent because they are so intensely focused on eating.

I highly recommend this place….BTW. Get there early…
