Prices of Durian and Pomelo up
PRICES of durian went up by 300 percent, based on a monitoring conducted Monday at the Magsaysay Fruit Vendors’ Association on Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City.
Roger Malali, who has been renting a stall at the area for 20 years now, told Sun.Star Davao that durian now costs P80 per kilogram compared to P20 per kilogram in August.
“Demand for durian now decreased. Its supply also went down. During its season, we used to dispose 100 to 200 kilos everyday, now we can only dispose 20 kilos,” Malali said.
Malali claimed that durian prices are also expected to increase during Yuletide season.
“During Christmas, we increase the prices of durian from P80 to P120 or P150 because our supplier also increases its prices,” Malali said, adding that his durian stocks came from Calinan.
Prices of pomelo also went up by P20. From P30 and P80 (Class A), pomelo is now pegged at P50 and P100 per kilogram, respectively.
Malali claimed prices of pomelo would likewise increase as Christmas approaches.
