Transport Strike in Davao City

Today, the transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) is holding a “Nationwide” transport strike. But the Government said it would have minimal impact.

PISTON wants the Oil Deregulation Law and the 12% expanded value-added (EVAT) on oil products repealed as ways to control the non stop increase in oil prices.

Dito sa Davao City, medyo ramdam ang strike. Yung mga tricycle drivers and operators who are members of PISTON eh hindi pumasada. Like in Mamay Road. Passengers are left with Trisikads or pedicabs as we normally call it.

There are also protesters on the streets. Like this group at the junction of R. Castillio and J.P. Laurel.

Also, the streets of Davao City are not that crowded compared to regular days.

  1. Late po me sa work….

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  2. Taga-Davao pud ko…napadaan lang dito sa blog mo…(just reading some articles regarding sa strike)

Buti nalang may jeep pang pumasada…maglalakad sana ako papunta sa work… ;=)

    salamat!

  3. O please, dont even compare davao to manila. PISTON’s nationwide strike is not nationwide at all. there are still more workers who made it to work today, including us here in the office and all government employees.

only Manila felt the strike. sori pre, just correcting “disinformation”

  4. Hi Pyk,

being nationwide MAY mean having key cities in country experience the activity. Kahit isang tao lang ang nag strike per key area, pwede ng tawaging nationwide. Yun nga lang “failed strike” ang tawag dun if they’re objectives is to paralyze transport.

I said in my post “medyo rmadam ang strike”. I did not say “totally paralyzed” ang transport.

And i cited examples din with matching pictures oh.

I haven’t compared manila to davao yet. Pero i hope with this post, those in manila will be able to compare. na dito sa davao, peaceful ang strike and oks ang majority ng mga davao commuters.

    So i don’t think that’s a disinformation pre.

  9. i would admit, pare, i miss the very essence of your “medyo ramdam ang strike” but it was due to your MISS of informing your readers of the “still-regular” Davao City in the midst of a [failed] strike.

i think, we should be “balance” on this, pare. marami ka pa namang readers. they might thought Davao is totally joining Manila’s too reactive, not proactive, efforts.

i hope you could understand my sentiment over the city [and Mindanao]. iniiwasan ko lang kasi ang mga tipong news na 1-event-in-1-place-happens-everywhere. yung mga tipong giyera sa Sulu, but media tells it “giyera sa Mindanao” (big f***).

  10. sori for (big f***), pare. it is definitely not for you but for Manila media.
