Cebu Hospital Scandal

Its all over the news.. I’m sure you’ve heard and read about it by now.

Doctors and nurses at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City in Cebu city are in hot water after filming and taking pictures of a medical operation being done on a patient who had a cologne canister inside his ass.

Ok, here’s how i see it… he’s gay.. and instead of buying a dildo, he opted to use what’s available (very resourceful i must say…). he went to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), asked the doctors to pull it out. Now these doctors and nurses were soooooooo excited about this operation that they had to film the activities and take picture.. You’ll see later in the video that one of those involved even placed hi cellphone above the anus where the operation is being done.

I’m sure you wanna see the video… watch it after the break.

UPDATE:

The video is now made private:

This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender’s friend request.

But its still in youtube. just search for it.

It was like everybody was watching a spectacle.. Are they really doctors and nurses? Or maybe they thought it was a guiness world record or believe it or not thingi..

“Bibi out”.. “bibi out”…. The one pulling was doing it slowly.. it was like he was building excitement… and when it’s finally out, it was like a commercial endorsement of some sort - look at the hand gesture… And that’s not all… he had to open the can and spray it in the air. How sanitary could that be? He waved it so that everybody could see. He was so proud of what has been done…

Their argument (errr. palusot) that they were just jeering that the operation was finally over. Yeah right.

And it didn’t stop there.. They had to really announce to the whole world the brand of the cologne/body spray.

BRAVO.. BRAVO.. BRAVO..

WOW!

If i was the patient… i’d be furiously mad.

A lot of people are calling for a boycott on Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC). Hey after seeing this, who would want to go to that hospital.. a place where they film operations and make fun of it. A place where a patient’s right to privacy is exposed and violated.

Again, are those really doctors and nurses? Is Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) employing phonies? Coz i’ve been hearing of medical malpractice.. but this one… bad behavior? I don;t know.. you tell me.

And to think we were super insulted by what Terri Hathcer did when she insulted pinoy doctors and nurses in her infamous line: “Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Coz I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the video:

I think the line should have been ” Okay, before we go any further, can I check your records? Coz I would just like to make sure that you did not come from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).

If this incident happened here in Davao, i’m sure mayor Duterte will be on top of this. And We’ll also be sure that those demonoids who did this will not go unpunished.

Oh, have you read the news about another case at this hospital? Ronalyn Caballes, the patient, is accusing Jeffry Polancos, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) property custodian, of asking her to have sex with him in exchange for the release of a document. read it here. But again, this is just an accusation.

I did some news digging and i found out that this hospital is somewhat popular… popular in incidents and anomalies

  • Fisherman takes son as hostage
  • CEBU CITY–The Commission on Audit found that the P3 million medical aid fund from the pork barrel of Cebu City Rep. Antonio Cuenco at the government-run Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (DVMMC) has been misused. The COA auditor assigned at the hospital reported that Cuenco’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), or pork barrel, worth P3,290,083.29, went instead to ghost purchases of medicines. - source

oh man… :(

It’s frigging horrible, what they did.

We condemn the acts of the doctors, nurses and some (students?) who mocked the poor patient inside the operating room. It was very unhuman, unprofessional.

However, I stand that we can’t generalize all the medical professionals of VSMMC. There are many who serve the patients with all sense of professionalism and dignity. It will be unfair to them if we insinuate that the whole hospital is a mess.

nice blog entry, very informative. sad to say, you indirectly became one of the accomplice on dessiminating this humiliating video. a video that affects the integrity of every filipino professional around the world.

actually, i did not see this video yet but i was one of the first to know as my gf is a also an MD.

i assumed you got high traffic out of this…

As a medical student, I admit that sometimes we have tendencies to laugh at unfortunate events on the operating table. But we (or anyone else for that matter) are always told not to film the whole operation or any medical procedure without the patient’s consent. It’s against the code of ethics.

I agree that what the medical staff did was totally condemnable and it’s a shame to medical profession. However, as Batang Buotan said, we should not generalize. A fault of one should not be considered a fault of many. It would be unfair.

Suddenserenity,

I’m reposting my reply (to you) in the MB mailing list.

But that’s not just what i helped in doing.. i also helped in informing you that there are doctors and nurses who does not take their patient’s privacy seriously. I also helped in informing you that there are people out there who makes fun of people with that type of situation.. and it may have helped in opening up another topic about gay discrimination,

I blogged about it because i’d like to give my opinion on the issue. Kaya nga ako nag ba-blog para mai-share sa mga tao what i think eh.

If we will just look at one side of the coin.. sayang naman yung naka embed sa kabila ng coin.. hehhe

I know you get what i mean..

————–

as an addition, yes traffic is picking up on this entry.. that means a lot of people wants to be informed.

Nothing much on my part (monetazation wise) coz there are no ads to click.

Its the second or third time you’ve mentioned (in other posts) about me gaining traffic in my blogs…

while the public has the right to know we also have to weigh the impact and fairness to those people involved and not involved. the national interest were we are promoting medical tourism, and the damage to the repuation of our country and our medical professionals around the world. its already on the news and every blogger also read news papers, watch news, its talk of the town in offices. what else, esclating the news to the blogosphere?

everyone is entitled to an opinion, i agree. but reposting a video with links to some local isolated news of medical malpractice is IMHO unnecessary.

aww here we go again..

Umm do you give these comments to all those who posted the video? like do you comment in youtube? (i dont know that’s why im asking).. hehehe

your saying that i should not have posted the video because…
1. impact and fairness to those people involved and not involved.
2. national interest
3. every blogger also read news.. etc..
4. IYHO its not necessary…

i could rebutttttttt your statements and you’ll answer back… it won’t end.. and we’ve done this before (the mini debate in another post)…

so let me just say thank you for your comment. =>

Until the next big issue….

to suddenserenity:
“while the public has the right to know we also have to weigh the impact and fairness to those people involved and not involved. the national interest were we are promoting medical tourism, and the damage to the repuation of our country and our medical professionals around the world.”

But we people shout for transparency in government and that we must expose corruption…

What’s the difference in this one?

Aren’t we hypocrites then?

AMEN to that brader godie!

what embarrasment did this man receive? now that this has happened what face can he show to public?

and you shouldn’t have posted the video. you too are vio, atng e persons right to privace…art III section 4..law stud here. hahahah

outmost disgust and pure fury for those idiots who did that wicked thing! how in the world did they manage to get their diplomas and passed their ethics subject???????

after reading and knowing this whole thing, i decided not to pursue my dreams of going bank to the philippines and take nursing … i’d rather take nursing in some colleges here in the states

While I respect both of my friends, suddenserenity and Migs here, and while I respect both their views, I must put my foot down on this issue. What the docs & nurses did in that video was despicable. And, Migs’ posting of the video here to alert his readers and to inform them is not bad. I myself would not have posted it because I don’t like doing so.

@Suddenserenity: OK na sana ang sentiments mo pare eh, kaso when you said “i assumed you got high traffic out of this…”, medyo nasira. I know Migs very well, and I have a healthy respect for how and why he blogs. Sa lahat ng nakilala kong mga bloggers, he is the least concerned with blog traffic and he doesn’t even monetize his blogs.

Thanks brader Blogs….

@blogie & migs: the traffic thing was indeed unecessary. i’ll rest my case on this. have a great day.

grabe!!! pinahiya ng mga doctors and nurses from VSMMC ang cebu! they’re uncivilized!!!

Heard in the news that the people concerned are going to be “disciplined”!?! WTF, they should be jailed!

“I think the line should have been ” Okay, before we go any further, can I check your records? Coz I would just like to make sure that you did not come from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).”

HAHAHAHHA. BRAVO ON THIS PUN.

HAHAHAHHA. BRAVO ON THIS PUN.

“I think the line should have been ” Okay, before we go any further, can I check your records? Coz I would just like to make sure that you did not come from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).”

First of all, I tried youtube and the video was no lnger there. How about that? Somebody high up must’ve complained to youtube about this.
Second, this reminds me of the “alleged” gerbil being taken out of acotr Richard Gere’s anus in a L.A. hospital. This was neither confirmed or denied. I just wished any of the doctors or nurses present had a cell phone camera handy.
And thirdly, the doctors and nurses present were probably aghast at what they were witnessing, saying to themselves “nobody is going to believe me….”and miraculously, somebody whipped out a cellphone camera. Modern technology can be a blessing or a curse. Take your pick.
I feel sorry for the patient, as his privacy had been violated.
At the same token, I feel forry for the staff, as they didn’t even get compensation from any of the tabloids. Maybe the video had been copied and still out there!

Fact: It was indeed in VSMMC (Cebu City). You can still watch videos on youtube of the management having a press conference apologizing for the actions of the staff.
Re: gerbil from Richard Gere’s anus - neither fact or fiction. But it made the rounds on the internet, esp. snopes.com and truthorfiction.com
Why punish the doctors or nurses? They were able to remove the canister out of the guy’s rectum, right? At best, suspension w/o pay should be justified. Who’ll be left at the emergency ward if they fire the staff? And if the emergency staff was vacant and a life or death situation should occur? Who are they going to call? Most of their doctors & nurses have left to work overseas!!!

Why all the fuss about a guy’s anus? There must’ve been similar (and other foreign objects) extracted from gay guys’ anuses!
Would you rather that it circulates around w/o any proof?
This is like discovering that UFOs really exist and you have the movie recording to prove it!!
And these spoilsports have to come in and spoil all the fun. Not fair!!!

They film all kinds of surgeries nowadays. What’ wrong with filming a canister being extracted out of a man’s rectum? I’d rather watch that than watch hemorrhoids being operated on.
And how could the patient be embarassed? They were only filming his rectum, and not his face, right?
I wonder if they waived the fee for his surgery.

Please upload the VSMMC video to you tube again.

I think the reason why the person who uploaded the video to YouTube, REMOVED it because he realized his MISTAKES. That’s a good sign. Uploading it AGAIN, just add another INSULT to already injured individuals. Let us remember that the patient in NOT the only victim. It is NOT only VSMMC that is affected. If we condemn the brutal acts of a surgical team in VSMMC, let us also be better than the team by remaining calm and reasonable with comments, and airing of disappointments.

Peace!

sad to see all of this…but eventhough the pt. has done a disgusting thing to himself the doctors & nurses should know the pt. rights…they’re not in the hospital to make fun of other people mistakes…hope you learn from this…

My best friend is a nurse, i really asked her isn’t part of your oath taking is to respect privacy and confidentiality of your patient? isn’t it part of your code of conduct and the ethics of your profession? i don’t really have much idea on the medical profession on what are there rules and what they are oath to be but we all know in every job, profession or whatever company we are into, there is always rules to be followed. And confidentiality and privacy is the most important one for a customer to trust the compay.
Even if its your personal life your most cared and valued thing is your privacy. I hope they realize how important it is to respect ones individuality and privacy….

I’ve just recently seen the full video of such act and can’t help but feel bad and somehow hate being a filipino. what were thye thinking. I believe these people concerned should really be severely punished. Given what the patent did, as doctors who had taken oath, it was beyond what people could expect of a doctor. Teachers like me have to take our oath seriously. in cases we violate rules, our licenses would be revoked. I firmly believe they should undergo serious punishment for this mishap. this act somehow put the doctors abroad gaining respect to shame.. tsk tsk tsk

Another great well done by our medical staff from our homeland… And I’ve said many times to my self “I’m NOT proud to be a Pinoy” coz we pinoy really sucks… ADMIT IT!!!…

BTW, that gay should have died… Gay are just a bunch of diseases in the community.
